What is PortalPlus?

Portal Plus provides access to a wealth of information resources and services from around the University. Login once using your University username (eg u0712345) and password and you will have access to:

  • your e-mail
  • your Library account
  • e-journals and e-resources
  • information about your modules, including online learning materials, exam results and your details
  • information from the University and round the world, including the latest news and campus announcements
  • community tools, including discussion areas, chat and groups

What's my username and password?

Your username and password are the ones that you use to login to the university network. Please note your username is case insensitive (eg u0712345 or U0712345) and passwords are case sensitive.

Where does the information in PortalPlus come from?

The information is as held in various systems and databases. For example, your student details are as you have provided on your enrolment form, the assessment details are from the student record system etc.

I can't login and who do I contact?

If you have a problem, or just don't know why something isn't working the way in which you expect it to, just contact either Student IT Support or portal@hud.ac.uk. Include the following information:

  • University of Huddersfield username (eg u0712345)
  • The time the error occurred
  • The error message(s) you received (if any)
  • The web browser type and version eg Internet Explorer 6
  • The operating system (OS) eg Windows, Macintosh, Linux

Can I access PortalPlus from home?

Yes, PortalPlus is on the Internet and available wherever you have an Internet connection. Just type portalplus.hud.ac.uk in your web browser address bar.

Does PortalPlus have a 'timeout'?

Once you have logged into portalplus.hud.ac.uk your session will expire (timeout) after 15 minutes of inactivity.

IMPORTANT: ALWAYS BE SURE TO LOGOUT OF THE PORTAL when you have finished by selecting the 'Logout' button at the top of the portal page. PortalPlus gives access to confidential information and it is important that you logout and close the browser if you are using a public/shared computer. Do not rely on timeouts to log you out of your portal session.

PortalPlus downtime

Regular maintenance of the portal takes place on Tuesday mornings between 8am and 10am and PortalPlus may be unavailable during that time.

What are the benefits of using PortalPlus?

PortalPlus aims to minimize an individual's effort in accessing information and services of particular interest to them, as well as providing customisable content specific to their needs. An individual only needs to login once to access various University of Huddersfield services, which may otherwise require numerous usernames and passwords.

Why won't my e-mail or groups open?

Check that you have cookies and JavaScript enabled and that you have any pop-up blockers disabled.

I can't view PowerPoint, Word or Excel documents from home as I don't have the software.
